My name is Khaled Muhanna, a fifth-year dental student. Since I was young, I’ve always felt a special connection to the medical field. But what made me choose dentistry specifically was something both simple and profound: a smile. I’ve always believed that a smile can change someone’s day—it reflects health, confidence, and hope. I wanted to be the reason someone gets their smile back. That’s why I chose this path, despite knowing how difficult and costly it would be.

As someone from Gaza, I live in a region exhausted by crises, blockade, and harsh economic conditions. My father is a government employee whose monthly salary does not exceed 2,000 shekels, barely enough to cover basic needs. Throughout my years of study, I haven’t received any scholarships, making my academic journey full of challenges. I struggled to pay tuition fees, afford the required medical supplies, and at times, couldn’t even buy essential tools for hands-on training. I’ve often considered working outside of class hours, and many times I felt like I was on the verge of collapse under the weight of financial and emotional stress.

But despite it all, I held tightly to my dream. I kept telling myself, “If the path is difficult, then the outcome will be worth it.” Even a small amount of financial support could have changed so much in my journey. It would have lifted the weight of constant worry, allowing me to focus more on my studies and sharpen my clinical skills. It would have helped me become the dentist that the people of Gaza desperately need—where access to healthcare is limited and resources are scarce.

One unforgettable experience happened during my clinical training at a medical center in Gaza. An elderly woman came to me in severe pain. She was hesitant and afraid because she couldn’t afford the cost of treatment. I treated her as the medical profession taught me: with compassion, care, and a determination to help. After the procedure, she smiled and said, “God bless you, my son. You brought me peace again.” That moment wasn’t just a reward—it was fuel for my journey.

Today, as I near the end of my academic path, I fully realize that investing in a student like me is not just personal support—it’s an investment in an entire community. Financial assistance doesn’t just change one life—it creates a doctor who may change hundreds. And I write these words to say to anyone considering supporting students in Gaza: you are not just donating, you are creating hope, planting seeds of success in a land that is thirsty for it.

Thank you to everyone who sees in us a potential worth the opportunity, and a future worth building.
