Alex is days away from a home of her own, but she urgently needs help getting out of the unsafe place she is in now. We have found housing. What stands between her and finally leaving is the cost of moving in and settling the hotel bill.

Alex is a 24-year-old disabled trans woman with cerebral palsy who is a non ambulatory wheelchair user and cannot walk. In 2024, Alex fled Florida after abuse at home and a group home for mentally incompetent adults(which she is not one) where her HRT was stolen and she faced violent transphobia. She came to the DC area seeking safety, medical care and a chance to rebuild her life.

Instead, she spent nearly a year in the hospital waiting for an appropriate placement. She worked through physical and occupational therapy to gain more independence, only to face further harassment, invasions of privacy and failures to protect her in assisted living. Public pressure and help from government agencies stopped an attempted eviction, but they could not give her the safe home she needed.

Since April 1, she has been stuck in an expensive extended-stay hotel. She needs to get away from people here who make her feel unsafe, and every additional day drains money needed for her escape. Additionally, last week she was recently almost sexually assaulted by a 63 year old man in the hotel parking lot. Thankfully that man is being held accountable and Alex is safe for now. However, homelessness would put her health and safety in serious danger.

Now the paperwork barriers have been resolved, and permanent housing is finally within reach. These are the final expenses we need help covering:
