KC had a flare up last fall, got covid, and became further disabled. While pursuing medical care for this flare, even though they masked as much as possible, they got covid. Their Dr. agreed they needed to take time off so they did, but within a few days of letting their work know they were laid off, leaving them without access to private long term disability.

Over the past year their symptoms increased. They have been malnourished (low folate, low vitamin c, slight anemia). They are also in the midst of a diagnostic odyssey for various new symptoms including ongoing blood eosinophilia, a Raynaud's recurrence, skin lesions, splinter hemorrhages, reduced DLCO on pft, ground glass opacities on CT, chest and back pain, increased bruising and bleeding and more.

They are mostly bed and housebound. In February, they started an intense regimen of IVIG as a treatment of last resort for their autonomic small fiber neuropathy. These infusions, while they seem to be helping, take a full day and a few days after for recovery.

This year has been tough - they fainted twice, were admitted to the ER with chest pain, they were in status manganous over 3 times, they have had a couple infections. Their tachycardia, orthostatic intolerance, brain fog and many other symptoms have increased. Their care team added IV steroids which are having mixed results.

KC continues to fight insurance appeals to see specialists. They have been asking for and getting lab work to try to find answers. KC spends most of their higher spoon time going to dr. appointments, working on their SSDI application or trying to read scientific articles to learn what is going on with them. (KC thinks this is vasculitis, which, untreated, can lead to organ damage, though eosinophilia by itself can also lead to organ damage).

They continue to work with their care team to try to get relief but are unable to do substantial work to cover their basic expenses.

State short term disability over the year was about 60% of their income per month which helped over the year, but made it tough to pay for their ongoing expenses, leading to debt racking up. That disability income has now completely run out. Their application is into SSDI/SSI with the DDS examiner but can take years, especially for younger peopple, to access.

Kc and their support team have applied to many assistance programs: they receive ~33 hours from IHSS. However, their food stamps were also stopped when they applied for general assistance due to what is likely a paperwork error which they are trying to appeal. They have already received support from a local housing assistance and have exhausted that relief fund. They are on the waiting list for section 8.

After exhausting public and private relief programs, they still are still in urgent in need of support to pay rent, food, medical and basic living expenses.
