The Rivne branch of Plast, Ukraine’s national scouting organization, is organizing several educational summer camps. These camps offer more than just outdoor fun—they create safe, supportive spaces where children can regain a sense of normalcy and build confidence, friendships, and skills that will last a lifetime.

Many of the children we aim to support have been displaced by war, lost a parent, or have a parent currently defending Ukraine. For these kids, camp can be a life-changing experience.

Just $100 can cover up to half the cost of camp for one child—a gift that can mean the world to them.

Why do kids in Ukraine need help?

Growing up as a kid in a country during a war means being deprived of a part of the childhood that your peers elsewhere enjoy. Your adults pay less attention to you, as they have other “more important” concerns, trying to find what to eat, repair the place you live in, or take care of medical needs. Extracurricular activities like summer camps are usually postponed till better days. But what can be more important than your mom’s or dad’s or teacher's attention, and the joy of learning new things or playing with your friends, when you are a child? What will we do to help Ukrainian kids?

We use 100% of the raised money to brighten the childhood of Ukrainian kids affected by the war, such as internally displaced kids temporarily living other parts of the country, in the villages recently liberated from the invasion, in small towns near the front lines of this war, as well as those that lost a parent to the war. This direct help to low-income families and internally displaced kids will be provided by our dedicated local team of volunteers from the Rivne branch of Plast organization in Ukraine that is focused on humanitarian efforts for the youth. "Summer camps 2025" project report:

In summer 2025, thanks to your support we’ve raised funds to provide camp subsidies for 75 children from low-income and war-affected families. There were two camps organized in the month of June and July at our camp site Voloshky in western Ukraine. Children enjoyed the nature and each others company, giving them memories and strength for the rest of the year.

"Summer camps 2024" project report:

In summer 2024, your contributions helped the Plast scouting organization branch organize two summer camps in June and August, with 50 disadvantaged children receiving a subsidy to attend the camps near Rivne in Ukraine. This includes internally displaced kids temporarily living in other parts of the country, children whose parents currently defend their homeland, as well as children who have lost a parent to the war

"Summer camp 2023" project report:

The objective of the summer 2023 phase of this project was to give vulnerable Ukrainian kids an opportunity to enjoy a summer camp. We helped Ukrainian kids in low-income families, where one of the parents is defending their country or that have been displaced by the war, to join an educational summer camp organized by Plast national scouting organization of Ukraine. The assistance of approximately $100 in value (which is as much as a half of a minimal wage!) was distributed to 20 kids in a form of a camp registration discount , providing them with outdoor education and a joy of a summer camp.

"Fall weekend camp" project report 2022:

In the fall 2022, together with Rivne Plast scouting center, we organized a weekend camp every week for children who had left their cities because of the war, and for children whose parents are defending their home country, for children from large families and children with special educational needs. At the camp, they spent time together, learned new things about nature and science, and built connections with the peers. One of the basic human needs is to feel needed, that others do care about you, and that you can be strong enough to have your own worthy path. The camps organized by Plast scouting communities are best suited for this.

Sunflower Seeds Ukraine is an all-volunteer organization that responds flexibly and efficiently to the most urgent needs in the hottest war zones in Ukraine. We stay agile due to our small size, multinational team, and direct on-site contacts that we developed in 2014-2015 and adopted to the new realities in 2022. Working with small grassroots organizations like us, is one of the most direct methods to help Ukraine, which is much more impactful than donating to big organizations with equally large logistical bottlenecks.
