Southbound Initiative is raising funds to build a palm oil refinery operated by a Congolese workers cooperative in Kisangani, Democratic Republic of the Congo. This important project aims to create meaningful and lasting sovereignty for agricultural workers, anti-imperialist activists, and the masses of Congolese people who rely on Palm derivatives as a staple product.

Food sovereignty is a critical aspect in fighting neo-colonialism and imperialism in Africa. Even though palm fruit is grown on Congolese land by Congolese farmers, its products are refined in other continents by foreign investments. Palm derivatives are a versatile product used in cooking oil, soap, fuels, and more. Building this refinery will permit communities in Central Congo to produce greater value added products and work towards the self-determination of the country and region.

Donated funds will go towards the capital machinery and development of the co-op under the direction of local anti-imperialist activists and farmers.
