For over 30 years, READ Lakeland, Inc. has been dedicated to improving lives through adult literacy education. Founded in 1995, we are the only adult literacy tutoring program in Polk County, providing free, one-to-one and small group instruction to adults who struggle with reading and writing. With the support of Polk County Public Schools and over 100 dedicated volunteers, we help individuals gain essential literacy skills—empowering them to read medical instructions, complete job applications, and share stories with their children.

To support this mission, we host our annual Kiss the Pig fundraiser, where community members compete to raise funds for literacy—and the top fundraiser gets the honor (and hilarity) of kissing a real pig! 🐷💋 This fun and impactful event ensures that more adults in our community have access to the literacy support they need to succeed.
