For over 30 years, READ Lakeland, Inc. has been changing lives through adult literacy education. Founded in 1995, we are the only adult literacy tutoring program in Polk County providing free, one-to-one and small-group literacy instruction to adults who struggle with reading, writing, and English language skills.

With the support of our community partners and more than 100 dedicated volunteers, we help adults gain essential skills that many of us take for granted—like reading medical instructions, completing a job application, communicating at work, or reading a story to their children.

To help keep these programs completely FREE to every student we serve, we host our annual Kiss the Pig for Literacy FUNdraiser! Local community members compete to raise money and earn votes for the chance to become our top fundraiser—and receive the ultimate honor: kissing a real pig! 🐷💋

It’s fun. It’s a little ridiculous. But at the end of the day, it makes a very real difference.

Every dollar raised helps READ Lakeland reach more adults, provide more literacy resources, and give our students the tools they need to build brighter futures for themselves and their families.
