Knit for Food was founded by knitwear designer Laura Nelkin and was inspired by her daughter's AmeriCorps position at their local food bank during the pandemic summer of 2020. Knit for Food Knit-a-thon is a 12 hour knitting marathon to raise funds and awareness for food insecurity. 100% of funds raised will be equally divided between Feeding America, World Central Kitchen, No Kid Hungry, and Meals on Wheels.
In 2021, knitters raised $265,810!
In 2022 we raised $271,761!!
In 2023 we raised $340,000!!!
In 2024 we raised $379,010!!!
That means knitters have raised over $1,250,000!
If you received this notification, please consider making a contribution. The food charities listed have extraordinary abilities to stretch a dollar, so $1 can provide up to 10 meals for those in need. That means a $5 contribution to KNIT FOR FOOD goes much further than it does in the supermarket.
If you're a knitter or crafter, you are invited to join me and knit (or craft) for a bit on April 5th. I'll be knitting at Orange: coffee. art. music. in Delaware Water Gap, PA from noon-3 pm.
