KOSINIMA, Inc., founded by filmmaker Oluwaseun Babalola, is an African-led, women-led, filmmaker-led organization, is a part of the community it is trying to serve. Providing mentorship, funding, and career opportunities is vital for growth and connection, and original documentary projects create jobs and encourage nuanced conversations for social change.

Current program overview:

KOSINIMA SHORT FILM GRANT – A grant fund for Black femme filmmakers in Africa and the African diaspora to create a short film of any genre.

MOSADI WRITES SCREENWRITING AWARD – “Mosadi (meaning “woman” in Setswana) Writes” is a screenwriting award for Motswana female writers to produce a short screenplay.

ṢOJU- A virtual community that uses film and photography to explore Black identity and spotlights African youth culture.

All projects focus on identity, community, and unique creative voice.

KOSINIMA Short Film Grant: Since its launch in 2022, Kosinima has supported 8 incredible Black femme filmmakers from the U.S., Kenya, Nigeria, Belize, Brazil, and Botswana with $18,260 in funding--executive producing all films and bringing unique stories to the screen.

Ṣoju Media Platform: The online platform has celebrated youth culture through documentary film and photography across 11 countries (Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Kenya, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Botswana, Cape Verde, Senegal, Uganda, Benin, and Spain), reached audiences in 75 countries and generated over 2 million impressions while creating jobs for African creatives from photographers to graphic designers.

Mosadi Writes Screenwriting Award: In partnership with the Bantu Film Festival in Botswana, we just premiered our first co-production in rural Botswana, a musical short film, spotlighting a new wave of Motswana female storytellers.

KOSINIMA PRESENTS…– Pop-up gatherings that bring together KOSINIMA grantees, Black media professionals, storytellers, and community members for screenings and connectivity.
