Our first resident is here! Everyone, meet BamBam!

BamBam, our sweet senior goat, arrived at the sanctuary one month ago. He has lots of health issues from a lack of proper care over the years, and we are working very hard to help him get healthy with the help of our vet, Dr. Quinn.

BamBam arrived with the following health issues:

Arthritis in his legs, hips, and spine
A dangerously high parasite load which required THREE deworming medications
A FAMACHA of 4.5 which indicates severe anemia (score provided by our vet)
Skin and hair issues due to copper deficiency
White line disease in his feet/hooves
Narrow urine stream most likely due to crystals
His platelets are not normal, so we will be running more labs on August 14th. If his labs continue to show platelet issues after deworming has helped lower his parasite load, this could indicate an issue with his spleen or even cancer.

Since arriving at the sanctuary, his hair and skin are healing wonderfully thanks to daily brushing and proper diet and minerals. His parasites are being addressed. He has a barn for the first time and has been spending these hot summer days relaxing under his fans. He has 5 different drinking options, cleaned and refreshed daily. He has hay, Timothy pellets and lots of yummy browsing to munch on. He is on ammonium chloride to help avoid urinary blockage. He gets daily health checks. He is healing!

His initial vet vist was a total of $525.99 + $76.50 to test him for the three incurable, highly contagious goat diseases (Johns, CL and CAE) - for which he has tested negative!

His next visit to follow up on his platelets and overall health is estimated to cost an additional $250. Would you please help us help BamBam heal? He is a good, sweet, gentle boy who loves being brushed, pet and cuddled. He needs us to help him heal from the years of neglect he has lived through.
