hub for preschool readiness, afterschool academics, career-track clubs, technology training, and
family support.

Why this matters now

For 16+ years, Genesis Youth Foundation has helped immigrant and refugee youth and families
find their footing—academically, socially, and economically—through afterschool programs,
leadership development, arts, and soccer. Demand keeps growing, and families need a reliable,
permanent space they can call home. Purchasing the former St. Paul building at 911 E. 12th
Street (Des Moines, IA) lets us expand programs, stabilize operations, and serve more students
with excellence.

What the Genesis Learning Center will house

Early Learning & Preschool Readiness: Foundations in literacy, math, and social skill
for ages 3–5.
Afterschool Academic Support (K–12): Homework help, tutoring, IXL practice, and
grade tracking so students pass every class.
Ubuntu Leadership Academy (Career Clubs): Healthcare, Technology, Finance, and
Entrepreneurship/Business—real-world skills and mentorship.
Performing & Digital Arts + Sewing: Safe spaces to create, express, and build
confidence.
Soccer & Movement: Discipline, teamwork, and wellness through Genesis FC and Next
Move youth programs.
Family Support & Community Hub: Parent workshops, resource navigation, and
culturally responsive services that strengthen the whole household.
