GiveSolar has partnered with a 9 Habitat for Humanity state organizations to raise a National Solar Seed Fund (UPDATE: As of April 2024, 10 states are participating). This fund will provide start-up support to launch solar programs in Florida, Virginia, Tennessee, Kentucky, Michigan, Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa and Texas. These 10 state organizations support a combined 344 local Habitat affiliates that build approximately 1600 homes each year.

We want to install solar energy systems on as many of these homes as we can. Why?

to enhance the affordability of Habitat homes and build generational wealth among hard-working, low-income families
to give rise to a just and equitable transition to clean energy
to pursue clean air and water through the solar electrification of homes
to educate Habitat partner families in energy efficiency and clean energy

This campaign began in Virginia with a strong proof of concept that will now be adapted and adopted in other states. To achieve this, Habitat needs private funds to develop solar programs in other states and stimulate a new, clean-power economy that will level the playing field for hard-working, low-income families.

Donations to this campaign will be used to create the necessary infrastructure and capacity to effectively stand up statewide solar programs.

In summer 2024, federal funds for low-income solar will become available through the Solar for All grant program (a component of the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022). The success of this fundraising campaign will ensure that Habitat for Humanity will be shovel-ready to take advantage of Solar for All funds. The Solar for All program will last for five years.

Donations to this campaign will be directed to Habitat for Humanity Virginia. On July 31, 2024, the funds will be divided equally and allocated to the ten participating Habitat state organizations. In addition to the $1 million goal of this campaign, we are seeking visionary philanthropists to help us reach our ultimate goal of $10 million.
