In the early 1980’s a vision of a Public Library for the citizens of Coldspring, Texas and the greater San Jacinto County, Texas population started to become a reality. It started to take shape in the old Evergreen Baptist Church.

In 1985 the Coldspring Area Public Library became official by establishing itself as a Public Library with the Texas State Library Association, and by setting up a Tax-Exempt, Non-Profit Corporation in the state of Texas.

Also in 1985, the Evergreen Baptist Church was Donated to the City of Coldspring, and it was moved to Slade Street in the heart of the Downtown Area.

After about 10 years, it became clear that the Library was outgrowing its building size with Inventory and loyal patrons.

In 1999 an aggressive building fundraising campaign, with a lofty $200,000 goal was launched. By the end of 2001 the goal was achieved and surpassed. The City donated land next door to City Hall, and construction began on the building where the Library resides today.

This year, 2025, marks the 40^th anniversary of the Library and 23 years in its current location. As with any home, after 23 years our house needs upgrades and repairs. We are still operating with furnaces, lighting and plumbing from that original build out. We have some structural shifting that has caused issues with our doors and windows.

So once again the Library is launching a Building Fundraising Campaign, with a modest goal of $40,000 to strengthen our house for the patrons of today, tomorrow and another 40 years.
