Amazing!

When the Lake Oswego Review partnered with the Local Media Foundation in April to raise funds to help us cover the impact of the COVID-19 outbreak, we didn't know what to expect.

Early donations to the Review and other Pamplin Media publications allowed us to begin hiring back staff members laid off in spring, when the shut-down of local businesses sent advertising revenue plummeting.

As a way of saying thanks, the Review decided to "pay it forward” and on June 17 issued a challenge: If we could raise $1,500 in eight days, we’d donate $1,500 in free advertising to three local non-profits that are helping our community during these difficult times (Lake Oswego Schools Foundation, Arts Council of Lake Oswego and Lakewood Center for the Arts.)

Two days later, Ted Davis, owner of Airstream Adventures Northwest, more than accepted the challenge.

He donated $10,000!

Because of his generosity, each those three nonprofits now have $1,500 to spend with the Review. But we don’t want to stop there. We’re going to use Ted’s gift to help out other local non-profits that have been helping our community during these difficult times.

First up is Friends of the Library, which for nearly seven decades has been supporting the Lake Oswego Public Library, an institution that has provided great resources during the pandemic. If we can raise $1,000 on this site in the next 10 days, we will give Friends of the Library $1,000 worth of advertising in the coming year.

In addition to helping this fantastic non-profit, your tax-deductible donation will support your best local source of news.

Like many businesses, the Lake Oswego Review was hit hard by the restrictions imposed by the outbreak of COVID-19. And yet, as the primary source or independent local news for dozens of Oregon communities, we felt a duty to find a way to continue covering the story, and we have. We’ve gone beyond rumors to get the real facts about outbreaks at local businesses, helped promote Lake Oswego fundraisers and will digging into the details of what students and parents can expect for the fall school year.

It’s hard work in challenging times. But knowing that we have the support of our community makes it much easier.
