Our Story

Art has the power to transform lives, preserve culture, and build stronger communities.

The Chicano Center for the Arts was founded on the belief that every person deserves access to creative expression, cultural pride, and opportunities to thrive. What began as a grassroots effort to celebrate Chicano and Latino artists has grown into a community-driven organization creating meaningful opportunities for artists, entrepreneurs, educators, youth, and families throughout Kansas City.

For many of the communities we serve, access to the arts has not always been equitable. Too often, talented artists and young people lack affordable spaces to create, showcase their work, and connect with others who share their stories. We exist to change that.

Through free and low-cost arts programming, youth mentorship, cultural festivals, public art experiences, entrepreneur marketplaces, and educational partnerships, we create spaces where culture is celebrated, creativity flourishes, and community comes together.

Each year, thousands of people attend our signature events—including the Chicano Art Festival & Lowrider Show, community art programs, artist showcases, entrepreneur marketplaces, and family-centered cultural celebrations. These experiences not only preserve and celebrate our heritage but also provide economic opportunities for local artists and small businesses while inspiring the next generation of creative leaders.
