A Celebration of Community, Culture, and Connection

La Puerta de Oro, meaning “The Golden Door,” was founded by Anita Martínez with a simple but meaningful vision: to create a place where Latino seniors in Oklahoma could gather, feel at home, and share their stories, traditions, and time.

What began as a small gathering has grown into a welcoming community that celebrates culture, connection, and belonging every day.

This cookbook reflects that spirit. It brings together the flavors, memories, and traditions that continue to connect generations and honor the richness of our heritage. Each recipe is more than a dish. It is a reflection of family, culture, and the people who make La Puerta de Oro so special.

Sabor y Recuerdos was developed through a collaborative effort between La Puerta de Oro and the Latino Community Development Agency. As part of this project, students from Cristo Rey Catholic High School were invited to help with interviews, writing, and design, allowing them to contribute to a project centered on culture, storytelling, and community.

Proceeds from this cookbook will support the La Puerta de Oro Senior Center and help continue the programs and activities that keep our elders engaged, creative, and connected.

Together, we honor the stories that came before us, celebrate the community we have today, and preserve these traditions for the generations to come.
