Livingston County, Michigan, is a beautiful place to live, work, and thrive. Yet, beneath our community’s economic strength lies a quiet, invisible barrier that impacts thousands of our neighbors.

Right now, approximately 8% of adults ages 16–74 in Livingston County read at or below a 3rd-grade level, and 15% struggle with basic daily math. This means roughly 12,000 adults in our county face severe everyday challenges—from reading a prescription bottle safely and navigating online banking, to texting an employer or reading a bedtime story to their children.

Low literacy is not a reflection of capability or intelligence; it is a systemic barrier to income, workforce growth, health outcomes, and family stability. At the Livingston County Literacy Coalition (LCLC), we know that literacy is the ultimate cornerstone of opportunity and human dignity. That is why we are gathering for an unforgettable evening of connection, competition, and community power.

The Event: 2nd Annual Trivia for Literacy

We are thrilled to invite you to Trivia for Literacy: An Evening of Fun & Impact!

When: Saturday, October 10, from 4:30 PM – 7:00 PM
Where: Faulkwood Golf Club (Howell, MI)
Host: Back by popular demand, our incredible Trivia Master, Matt Eickhoff!
Tickets: $30 per person [$25 EARLY BIRD PRICING UNTIL 9/1/26] (Includes a fantastic spread of appetizers, with a cash bar available).

Literacy is the foundation of a thriving community. The adult learners at LCLC are hard-working parents, local workforce members, and individuals who possess immense talent and resilience. They simply need the targeted resources to match their ambition.

We deliver that support through entirely free, highly structured, 1-on-1 programs designed for real-world impact:

Adult Basic Education (ABE): Personalized tutoring for foundational reading and writing.
English as a Second Language (ESL) Tutoring & Language Groups: Building immediate fluency and conversational confidence.
Digital Literacy & Senior Outreach: Equipping workforce learners with the tech skills required for the modern workplace, while simultaneously visiting local senior residential complexes to provide vital hands-on training in device navigation, internet safety, and fraud prevention.
Workplace Partnerships: Collaborating with local manufacturers to upskill workers on-site.

By matching every learner with a dedicated volunteer tutor, we ensure our students receive the individual dignity and exact tools they need to achieve self-sufficiency and success.

LCLC operates on grassroots passion, powered by our volunteer tutors and our dedicated coordination staff. Because demand for our free services has grown exponentially, we currently have a waiting list of local adults eagerly waiting to be matched with a tutor.

Our goal for this event campaign is $10,000. Reaching this milestone will allow us to sustainably expand our program coordination hours. This critical growth means we can instantly onboard more volunteer tutors, purchase modern learning materials, and work to completely eliminate our adult learner waiting list.
