Root for Her

At 12, she is already learning which version of herself is acceptable.

By 13, she has been told she is too much — or not enough — depending on the room. By 14, she has watched leadership get handed to people who look nothing like her and quietly filed it under "not for me."

LeadHers in Bloom: Roots exists to interrupt that story.

Roots is an 8-week arts-based leadership program for Black girls ages 12–14, running this summer at La Sala Boston in Roxbury, MA. Every Monday, a small cohort of 12–16 girls gathers for spoken word, visual art, movement, identity mapping, and collaborative storytelling. They build a personal portfolio of creative work. They develop real conflict navigation skills. They form a sisterhood that doesn't expire when the program ends.

At Week 8, each girl stands up at the Garden Ceremony and publicly claims her vision and her voice — in front of her community.

The program fee is $150. No girl gets turned away for the inability to pay. But we need your help to close the gap.

Our goal is $10,000. Every dollar is traceable. $150 funds one girl's complete journey — program, lunch at every session, 2–3 field trips, and materials. $10,000 funds 66 full scholarships.

We are not asking you to believe in potential. We are asking you to fund proof.

$25: The Seedling Choose any one BGA workshop from our library, delivered digitally at no cost to you. Workshops are valued at up to $75. You also receive a digital impact card showing exactly what your donation contributed to.

$50: The Root Keeper Receive 3 months of complimentary access to Sister Circle, BGA's community membership space for Black women. Plus your digital impact card.

$100: The Garden Tender Receive one full year of The Culture Collective — BGA's flagship community platform — a $180 value. Plus your digital impact card.

$150: The Scholarship Sponsor This is the one. Your $150 directly funds one girl's complete 8-week experience: every session, every lunch, every field trip, all materials. In return, you receive your name printed in the Garden Ceremony program, a shareable digital scholarship certificate, one free BGA workshop of your choice, and your digital impact card.

$250: The Bloom Sponsor Everything in the $150 tier, plus a public shoutout on BGA's Instagram and LinkedIn and a virtual invitation to the Garden Ceremony closing event. You funded her journey — you get to watch it end.

$500: The Legacy Root Everything in the $250 tier, plus your name and a one-sentence bio featured on BGA's website impact page for one full year, a feature in BGA's summer impact content across social and email, and one year of The Culture Collective access.

$1,000+: The Assembly Champion Everything in the $500 tier, plus "Presented by" credit in all Summer 2026 Roots communications, a live or virtual seat at the Garden Ceremony as an honored guest, a personalized impact report delivered after the cohort closes, and a standing invitation to a BGA leadership roundtable. At this level, you are not making a donation, you are co-building the program.

Where the money goes

Every dollar raised funds the Summer 2026 cohort directly: program facilitation and facilitator stipends, lunch at every session, field trips, program materials and supplies, the Garden Ceremony, and full and sliding-scale scholarships for girls who need them.

Nothing goes to overhead. This campaign is the program.

Our Vision

A world where every Black, Brown, and Indigenous girl and woman knows she is worth building a life around — surrounded by stories that look like her, led by women who have done their own healing, with the tools and spaces to become who she actually came to be.

Black Girl Assembly (BGA) is a community and leadership infrastructure organization built by and for Black women and girls. We create programming, spaces, and sisterhood that center Black girls' leadership, identity, and power, without asking them to shrink to access it.

LeadHers in Bloom: Roots is one of our flagship youth programs, designed specifically for Black girls ages 12–14 who deserve more than a confidence pep talk. We give them tools, time, facilitated space, and each other.
