While we work together to remove invasive species and plant native species, we’ll explore how seeds and forest pests spread on footwear, gear, and along trail systems, using real examples from bootbrush stations and surrounding areas. Together, we’ll explore how these small, often overlooked actions can have a big impact on the landscape and what simple steps we can take to reduce the spread of invasive species while recreating responsibly.

Join us to become more aware of your impact and help protect the places you love.

During the program, we’ll walk approximately 1/10 of a mile from the Shokan Station parking lot to our worksite, where we’ll review tool safety, invasive species identification, and best removal practices for our target species.

We’ll be working hands-on in an off-trail area, pulling invasive species such as common buckthorn, multiflora rose, and bittersweet. This work will help prepare the site for the planting of 120 native saplings later this season.

Frequent breaks are encouraged, and water and snacks will be provided. Please dress for work in areas that may include poison ivy, brambles, or ticks.

Please complete all volunteer forms prior to arrival. A limited number of copies will be available on site. All ages are welcome. Participants under 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian, and those under 18 must have permission.
