Reach for the Stars. Stand with Survivors. October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. #DVAmonth2026

Leaving is the hardest decision a person will ever make. By the time someone calls Families to Freedom, they have already made it.

What’s missing is a way to go. The shelter with an open bed is two counties away. The sister who said come now is three states away. There is no car, or the car isn’t safe, or there’s no money for gas — and the window to leave is measured in hours, not weeks.

Families to Freedom drives. That is the entire mission: getting people out when they have decided to go and have no safe way to get there.

Where your donation goes. Families to Freedom does one thing: it gets people to safety when they have no way to get there. A Ride — car rides to crisis shelters across the region, and long-distance drives to supportive family. A Ticket — bus tickets and flights to relocate out of state for safety. A Tank — fuel assistance for those with a vehicle, to get out of the area.

Every ride is free. Families to Freedom has never charged the person in the passenger seat, which means the fuel, the tickets and the miles have to be paid for somewhere else. Last October that was 234 people, who gave $51,828 — 103% of the goal. This year the goal is $50,000 again, and LegalEASE is matching every dollar up to $25,000.

Families to Freedom, a Texas nonprofit that gets survivors and their children out of danger and into safety. More than 1,000 survivors a year, at no cost to families, and more than $128,000 raised by LegalEASE since 2023.

Why the ride matters, in their words:

Every dollar, doubled. LegalEASE is matching all donations up to $25,000 through October 31.

Donating takes about a minute. Every donation is processed by Givebutter and goes directly to Families to Freedom Inc. (Employer Identification Number 47-3184478). Your tax receipt arrives by email.
