Ancient myths. Modern questions. International multi-award-winning artist and singer-songwriter Cheeyang Ng blends Chinese mythology, memory and queer legacy in the electrifying solo ritual musical Legendary, a life-affirming tale of queer joy and identity. Through communal song and the retelling of ancient legends, they explore their relationship with family, tradition and the stories that have shaped them, yet never reflected them. A global internet sensation, Legendary doesn't just tell a story: it invites the audience to create one.

Why are we Fundraising?

The goal of the Edinburgh Fringe is to provide affordable tickets to everyone who attends. We are thrilled to be able to bring this show to be showcased alongside thousands of other shows presenting at the Festival for people all across the world. Legendary is also making its debut at the Fringe.

With ticket prices at an affordable price, most shows at the Fringe operate at a loss. To assist in covering some of these expenses, such as housing and flights, we turn to the supporters of this show to help make Legendary happen. The success of Legendary at Edinburgh Fringe opens up touring opportunities worldwide. If you've wanted to see Legendary in your hometown of Melbourne, or Toronto, or Hong Kong, this is a crucial step in our journey to make it happen!

Creative Team

Written and Performed by Cheeyang Ng (they/them), who is a Fred Ebb, Princess Grace, and Jonathan Larson Award-winning singer-songwriter born and raised in Singapore. As a queer Asian immigrant and the first in their family to leave their home country in pursuit of the arts, Cheeyang creates work that sits at the intersection of personal history and public reckoning — exploring how music can carry stories across borders, languages, and generations.

Directed by Emilio Ramos (he/they) who is recently seen in Most Wanted (Lincoln Center's American Songbook Series), Legendary (MTFestUK , Breaking the Binary Theatre Festival), See What I Wanna See (Out of the Box Theatrics; three Drama Desk nominations). Current: Associate Director of Broadway's Maybe Happy Ending and Hadestown. Other AD Credits: Parade, Vanya, The Light in the Piazza. Adjunct faculty, NYU Steinhardt.

Producing Team

Everything is Maya (UK) and Qinggui Theatrical (US) are the production arm of Cheeyang's artistic practice. In loving memory of Ng Cheng Kwee.

Joe Hetterly (he/him) is a passionate arts administrator, producer, and educator committed to cultivating equitable spaces for artists. His background is holistic, spanning both commercial and non-profit theater. Select co-producing credits include Cats: The Jellicle Ball and Sara Bareilles’ upcoming new musical The Interestings. Joe met Cheeyang doing summer stock in 2013 and has been lucky to witness their brilliant artistry ever since. Grateful to help bring this show to life. www.communalpractice.com

Jennifer Leigh (she/her) is a British-Malaysian, independent producer, with a long-standing interest in musical theatre and new writing that tells exciting, feel-good and thought-provoking stories. Previous work at Edinburgh Fringe includes the award-winning best new musical The Single Lady, Leaves on the Line and Crash and Burns. Since 2024, Jennifer has worked for commercial producer Sonia Friedman Productions, providing data-driven, strategic insights across their slate of work in the West End and on Broadway.
