Help keep one of the Catskills' beautiful recreation areas clean while learning how to minimize your impact outdoors. Join the Catskill Center for a volunteer cleanup at Colgate Lake, where we'll walk through the primitive campsites, around the lake, and the parking areas collecting litter and abandoned campsite items.

Location: County Route 78 at Colgate Lake, East Jewett, NY (The first parking lot on the left-hand side before the Lake)

Along the way, we'll discuss the Leave No Trace Seven Principles and share practical tips for responsible hiking, camping, and enjoying the outdoors.

Although quieter than some of the Catskills' busiest destinations, Colgate Lake has become an increasingly popular spot for hiking, fishing, paddling, and swimming. Your efforts will help protect this scenic area and preserve it for future visitors.

Participants should come prepared with water, snacks, sturdy hiking shoes, sunscreen, bug spray, and weather-appropriate clothing, including rain gear. We'll be walking through brush and areas with a high tick population, and much of the route offers little shade, so be prepared for warm August conditions.

Registration is required. Please complete all volunteer forms prior to arrival. A limited number of copies will be available on site. All ages are welcome. Participants under 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian, and those under 18 must have permission.
