Join Latinos in Heritage Conservation (LHC), in partnership with the Arizona American Planning Association, on our upcoming workshop series, Raíces Comunales, with stops in Tucson (Nov. 6), El Paso (week of Nov. 17), and Albuquerque (week of Nov. 17), highlighting Latinx foodways, climate justice, and mural conservation. We will conduct interviews, take photographs, and create maps that will be added to the Abuelas Project’s national people’s archive.

Despite Latinx communities making up nearly 20 percent of the U.S. population, the stories shared in these workshops reflect a reality that LHC’s Equity Study has made clear: fewer than 1 percent of sites in the National Register of Historic Places recognize Latinx history. The Abuelas Project addresses this gap by creating a record rooted in community voice and lived experience.

Established in 2014, Latinos in Heritage Conservation is a national organization dedicated to promoting Latinx leadership and engagement in historic preservation.
