On September 3, 2016, Liam Mikael Kowal was killed in a Hawthorne crosswalk by a drunk driver. He was 15 months old.

Over the past 9 years, Marcus has spoken to more than 50,000 high school students at assemblies and prevention events across California and beyond. Liam's Law (CA Bill AB1713) — to lower the legal BAC limit from .08 to .05 — was introduced in the California legislature. Over 100 gyms worldwide now lift on May 25.

This year, every dollar raised on May 25 launches new work AND continues what's already moving:

Marcus's school speaking — putting a bereaved father in front of teenagers at the moment they're learning to drive. Goal: 20+ schools, 1,000+ (additional) students reached in 2026.
Liam's Life Pledge — a free, signable promise to never drive impaired. Year-one goal: 10,000 pledges.
Liam's Law Coalition — continued legislative work to lower the BAC limit nationally. (Utah's .05 law cut fatal crashes 19.8% in year one.)

WHAT: Liam's Life WOD — a partner workout performed by gyms worldwide on Liam's birthday.

WHEN: May 25, 2026 — Liam's birthday. Gyms run the workout at their own scheduled times throughout the day.

WHERE: Over 100 gyms worldwide. Pick a gym below to find a location near you, or join your local gym's team. Can't make it in person? Donate or do the workout solo and share with #LiftForLiam.

WHO: Anyone, any fitness level. The workout has scaled versions for beginners and a kids' version for families. You don't have to be a CrossFitter to lift for Liam.

THE WORKOUT: 5 rounds. 25 reps. 15 reps. Partner format, for time. The numbers honor Liam — 5/25 was his birthday, 15 months was his age.
