Tanesha Mondestin's Story
Hello! My name is Tanesha Mondestin and I am fundraising for a life-enriching maternal health experience in Liberia; The Perinatal Consulting Girlz Presents: Liberation Birthways Delegation - A Cultural Immersion & Birth Justice Journey.
Liberia is a country in West Africa that is ranked as the 5th most dangerous place in the world to give birth.
As a Haitian-American, I am deeply passionate about maternal health, here in the U.S. and in Haiti. Haiti has the highest infant and maternal mortality rates on the Western Hemisphere. With all of chaos going on in Haiti, this experience allows me to visit a country that has similar issues to Haiti.
When I was in high school, my father went to Haiti when my grandmother was sick. He witnessed a young woman die during the childbirth process. There was just not enough hospital staff to go around to attend to everyone in a timely fashion. Hearing my dad tell the story, made me sad and angry so I decided to dedicate my life to helping to preventing this tragedy from happening to as many families as possible.
I have a master’s degree in Population, Family, and Reproductive Health with a concentration in maternal, fetal, and perintal health. I would like to dedicate my life to maternal health globally. Please help me fundraise for my experience. Anything helps and I am very appreciative.
