Since 1949, Camp Kidwell has been a special place where young people and families gather to experience the outdoors, build friendships, and create lifelong memories. What began as a small youth camp started by the 4-H members of Allegan County has grown into a cherished community resource that has served generations of campers for more than 76 years.

Today, Camp Kidwell sits on 150 beautiful acres along the shores of Eagle Lake near Bloomingdale, Michigan. The camp originally began on just 8 acres purchased from the Kidwell family in 1949. In 1998, thanks to the incredible support of our community, the property expanded to its current size. This expansion not only allowed Camp Kidwell to grow its programs and facilities, but also preserved nearly a mile of Eagle Lake shoreline so it could remain natural and undeveloped for future generations to enjoy.

As a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization, Camp Kidwell exists to serve our community. Each year more than 5,000 guests visit camp through summer camp, weekend and winter camps, school outdoor education programs, youth retreats, family gatherings, church events, weddings, and leadership programs.

For many young people, camp is the place where they try something new for the very first time — riding a horse, paddling a canoe, climbing higher than they thought they could, or discovering a new level of confidence and independence. It’s also a place where kids unplug from screens, connect with nature, and form friendships that often last a lifetime. In fact, many of today’s campers are following in the footsteps of parents and grandparents who once attended Camp Kidwell themselves.

Camp Kidwell has always been a community effort. Generations of volunteers, supporters, families, and donors have helped build and care for this special place. Through camperships and community support, we work to ensure that every child who wants a camp experience has the opportunity to attend.

Licensed by the State of Michigan and accredited by the American Camp Association, Camp Kidwell continues its mission of creating welcoming outdoor experiences where young people grow, friendships form, and the community comes together to enjoy the beauty of the outdoors.
