Love, Peace & Spades will host its first speed-friending game night at The LINE Hotel. For anyone looking for a fun space to socialize and enjoy an evening of leisure and play, this will be one not to miss!

Beginning at 6 PM, Michael Tennant, award-winning author (The Power of Empathy) and founder of Actually Curious, will facilitate alongside our host Joshua J. Pinkay (@JPinnotes), a speed-friending event focusing on conversation starters and building platonic relationships.

Our goal is for those who come on time and participate to match as teammates for the night’s open play and round-robin Spades games.

That said, our fellow resident audio curator, Kaaos Jones (@DJKaaosJones), and a special guest DJ will play a mix of groove-inducing beats, blends, and selected songs from our official Speed-Friending Game Night Playlist—that will have you shaking a tail-feather while sitting at the tables.

We cannot stress enough the importance of interested parties arriving on time. We will host the Speed-Friending and Open Play from 6 PM to 7 PM, with Spades Academy starting at 8 PM for anyone who wants to learn how to play Spades, Bid Whist, Tunk, and Dominoes.

About Us:

Love, Peace & Games: Play It Forward is a Black-led education initiative and 501(c)(3) based in Los Angeles that facilitates free and donation-based community programming. Love, Peace & Spades answers the call for increased need for third-spaces that promote health, wellness, and the preservation of our #BlackFamilyHeirlooms (e.g., Spades, Tunk/Tonk, Bid Whist, Dominoes, and more).

In addition to gameplay, we offer pop-up experiences, skills-based education, tech/VR integration, a comprehensive directory of Black-owned businesses, game developers, and makers. We also hold two annual Spades tournament and a culture-and-games festival for enthusiastic players.

As a hush harbor, we have hosted over 8,000 attendees in less than two years, and we are recognized in The Los Angeles Times, Travel Weekly, KCAL News, and more. By focusing on leisure and play as a wellness tool, Love, Peace & Spades has successfully decreased social isolation and increased space for intergenerational communion and education through education (Spades Academy, Play It Forward). It is our mission to extend further into the surrounding community, neighboring cities, and the public education system one card at a time.
