The Praise House Project honors the legacy of Beacon Hill. With funding from the National Endowment for the Arts, visual artist activist Charmaine Minniefield, opens the site-specific installation with an artist talk during the Decatur Arts Festival, May 4th @ 3pm.
The project continues from its original installation at Oakland Cemetery where it honored over 800 unmarked graves, to then Emory University where it acknowledged the history of slavery and the origins of the ring shout tradition. Future sites include South-View Cemetery where it will acknowledge the victims of the 1906 Race Massacre and the Civil Rights history of the city.
