One night. Two teams. One shared mission.

Before the dynasty. Before the World Cups. Before the world was watching—there were the 85ers. In the summer of 1985, seventeen of the best women’s soccer players in the nation were chosen to form the first-ever U.S. Women’s National Team. With just one week of training, they boarded a plane to Italy to compete in the prestigious Mundialito tournament—making history with the team’s very first international appearance.

Nearly 40 years later in cities across the state of Utah, and one in California, 22 young women with a perfect blend of refugee and non-refugee backgrounds, received emails announcing their selection to the very first #SheBelongs team. A team that in just 4 short months would travel together to the 2023 Women's World Cup in Auckland, New Zealand to advocate for a world where every girl, everywhere has a fair shot at hitting her goals and achieving her dreams.

On Thursday, August 20, we're kicking off the very first day of the Legendary Women's Cup in Pocatello with a special screening of our film #SheBelongs: The Movie — and in the room with us will be the 85ers, the original 1985 U.S. Women's National Team. We will be honored to have a few of the 85ers join us for a panel after the film discussing their journey and how it relates to today's young women and all who support them.

Two generations. One truth—Belonging has always been there, you just have to show up for it — one opportunity at a time.

This event has a simple goal: DEEPEN OUR MUTUAL COMMITMENT TO GROW BELONGING FOR EVERY GIRL, EVERYWHERE

Secondarily, raising $1,500 enables us to expand opportunities for girls everywhere through the #SheBelongs movement.

Funds raised will help:

• Support leadership opportunities for girls in local communities through sport
• Grow the #SheBelongs Collective, a national player community for girls in soccer
• Form a Pocatello-area #SheBelongs Squad

If everyone attending donates $5–$15, we’ll reach the goal together. Your gift helps the next girl claim her space and grow.
