Course Description

Who am I? Why am I here? What is the purpose of life—and how do we make sense of hardship, injustice, and the world around us?

This course invites students to reflect on these fundamental questions and explore how Islam provides clear, meaningful, and deeply rooted answers. Drawing from the Qur’an, the life of the Prophet ﷺ, and the rich Islamic intellectual tradition, the course introduces the foundations of an Islamic worldview—one that shapes how we understand ourselves, our purpose, and our relationship with Allah and others.

Rather than approaching these topics in an abstract or purely academic way, the course focuses on helping students connect these ideas to their daily lives. Through guided reflection and discussion, participants will learn how to think more deeply about the bigger picture of life, respond to challenges with balance and perspective, and cultivate a sense of purpose grounded in faith.

Students will explore key themes such as belief in Allah, revelation, accountability, and the nature of this life and the next—while also developing practical habits of reflection, gratitude, and self-awareness. The goal is not only to understand these ideas, but to live with greater clarity, direction, and inner peace.

The course will draw from, among other works, The Vision of Islam by William C. Chittick and Sachiko Murata, as well as Al-Tawhid: Its Implications for Thought and Life by Isma’il Raji al-Faruqi.

Who Should Attend

Adults seeking a deeper understanding of life’s purpose and how Islamic belief shapes perspective, character, and daily living.

(Open to mature high school students.)
