The Library for the Kind is a non-profit organization founded by a group of passionate librarians. Our mission is to provide children and families with access to books that celebrate diversity, inclusion, and kindness

In 2020, during a time when children were going through a particularly difficult period, I was inspired to create the Library for the Kind. My initial focus was on providing children’s books that helped kids and families cope with depression and anxiety caused by isolation. Over time, I expanded our mission to support children facing a range of obstacles, including dysmorphia, parental incarceration, growing up LGBT+, and understanding people from different cultures and family backgrounds.

Our goal is to get these books into the hands of children who need them the most. We achieve this by donating books or resources to communities in need.

Your donation will help us get inclusive and diverse books into the hands of children by donating books in the communities that need them. This includes daycares, schools, libraries and other institutions in low income areas.

On May 30 - June 1, 2025 Library for the Kind is hosting our yearly fundraiser, Trek Long Island. You can find information regarding the event at treklongisland.com. The Library for the Kind promotes children’s books with focuses on diversity, inclusion, mental illness, LGBTQ+ and kindness. Children who see themselves or other people who are different from them in books are more likely to be empathetic to differences in others as adults. Children form bonds with characters they can relate to and feel less alone in the world. In 2023, our fundraiser raised $1050 that went to the Lavelle School for the Blind. Besides assisting the blind, Braille books can be a tool to create understanding and empathy in children as a learning tool. As a Children’s Librarian, I have used these methods in my programming. Last year we raised $1000 that was donated to PacCAN and other monies donated to the Pop Culture Hero Coalition and the Trevor Project.

Trek Long Island is an event that unites a community of individuals who share the same vision as Gene Roddenberry, creator of Star Trek, – one of a more inclusive future. We invite celebrity guests from all over the world, who have acted or been part of the Star Trek series, to speak on panels and connect one-on-one with their fans. Our event hosts community-supported panels that emphasize the equality of all individuals and a strong future.

We hope to continue raising funding for community schools, daycares and libraries in low income areas. By sponsoring Library for the Kind you will be a big part in helping us achieve our goal.
