This is far more than a beautiful bicycle. It is a one-of-a-kind, handmade work of art created by people who understand that great rides begin with great trails... and, that great trails require lasting investment, skilled stewardship, and a community willing to care for them.

The Cascade Cougar began when the team at Paul Component Engineering dreamed up a custom bicycle inspired by Mr. Paul’s original, old-school, California-built drop-bar Salsa mountain bike. They invited the exceptional builders at Black Cat Bicycles to bring that vision to life through a completely custom, handmade frame. The finished bike - outfitted with a carefully selected collection of exceptional components - was created for display at MADE, the world’s largest handmade bicycle show.

Then this extraordinary group made the project even more meaningful: they donated the completed bike to benefit Oakridge Trails Alliance!

Funds raised through this special bike raffle will directly expand Oakridge Trails Alliance’s ability to build, maintain, enhance, and protect access to trails throughout the greater Oakridge area and the Middle Fork Ranger District of the Willamette National Forest. That means more trained trail crews, better tools and equipment, stronger volunteer programs, improved trail conditions, and greater capacity to care for the extraordinary trails network that makes Oakridge one of the world’s most celebrated trail communities.

OTA’s trail crew, volunteers and partners have recently helped advance the new Fuji Mountain–Bunchgrass Connector, the long-awaited missing link between two iconic backcountry trail systems and an important connection within the Oregon Timber Trail and Orogenesis routes. We are also advancing the Trails to Town initiative, working with our local community to create a more connected and accessible trail network east of Oakridge. Alongside these larger projects, our crews continue the steady, essential work of clearing downed trees, restoring drainage, brushing corridors, improving trail surfaces, and helping keep treasured trails open, safe, and sustainable.

None of this happens through enthusiasm alone. It happens because individuals volunteer, donors give, and businesses throughout the cycling community recognize that selling great bikes, components, gear, lodging, shuttles, and experiences depends upon having healthy trails and reliable access to ride them.

We extend our deepest gratitude to Paul Component Engineering for imagining this project and choosing Oakridge Trails Alliance as its beneficiary; to Black Cat Bicycles for creating this remarkable handmade frame; to MADE for celebrating the craftsmanship and community behind handmade bicycles; and to every contributing builder and brand whose artistry and generosity helped complete the Cascade Cougar.
