Right now in Maine, roughly 8,500 babies live in families that can’t afford diapers. Parents are rationing them. Some babies are simply going without. This isn’t neglect. It isn’t a lack of love. It’s a lack of money — and a gap in the safety net that no program is built to fill. WIC can not use even a dollar of federal funds to purchase diapers for babies, SNAP can't be used on diapers and TANF is used to cover rent.

This is a campaign to make diapers and wipes available to the families statewide who are going without.

Maine Needs is partnering with Good Shepherd Food Bank to make diapers and cleaning products available to the 550 food pantries they serve. Our role is to fundraise and purchase. They will accept freight deliveries, inventory and distribute.

Funds raised will be used to purchase diapers in bulk, allowing us to access them at $0.17 a piece. This means we can provide 175 diapers (a month's supply) and wipes for $33 per baby.

If you can donate $33 a month you can diaper a baby all year! Our goal is to meet the diaper needs of the 8,500 babies that rely on WIC. You can also create your own peer to peer fundraiser and encourage friends and family to help you diaper babies throughout Maine.

Gifts to this campaign support Maine Needs' Diapers for Every Baby program, including the staffing, storage, and distribution required to deliver it. If this campaign is full funded, additional gifts will be directed to Maine Needs' area of greatest need.
