It takes more than a telescope to open up the universe.

At Battle Point Observatory, wonder happens when a child looks through a telescope for the first time. When a classroom steps inside a portable planetarium. When a high-school student moves beyond learning about science and begins doing it. When neighbors gather under a dark sky and discover something together.

Battle Point Astronomical Association creates opportunities for people of all ages to experience astronomy and science firsthand — through public Star Parties, planetarium shows, youth programs, school outreach, science talks, hands-on workshops and community events.

And those experiences take more than telescopes. They take educational materials, equipment, trained volunteers, program support and the resources to bring astronomy out into our community.

What your gift can help make possible

$20 — helps provide kid-friendly event giveaways and learning materials.

$50 — helps provide supplies and handouts for a Planet Pioneers class.

$200 — helps make planetarium shows possible during a summer Concert in the Park.

$500 — helps bring an onsite astronomy presentation and portable planetarium to a Kitsap school.

$1,000 — helps support BPAA’s Astronomy & Astrophysics Internship Program for high-school students.

These examples show some of the ways community support helps BPAA fulfill its mission. Your donation provides general support for BPAA and allows your gift to be used where it can do the most good.

About Us

Battle Point Astronomical Association (BPAA) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Battle Point Observatory was constructed from the shell of the Helix Building, a World War II relic that in 1992 was scheduled for demolition and removal by the Bainbridge Island Parks Department. Thanks to the vision of the founders of the Battle Point Astronomical Association, that demolition never took place; instead, through private volunteer community efforts an Observatory was created which supports telescopes, the Rudolph Planetarium, the Ritchie Workshop, and an office and meeting space in the Gardiner Library.

We offer regular planetarium shows, science talks, tours by request, and offer a Membership for you to join us and learn about news & activities happening at Battle Point Observatory.
