This year, the J.L. Mann Student Council is honored to announce that our Spirit Week fundraising efforts will benefit an incredible local organization—Touched by ALS. This non-profit is dedicated to supporting individuals and their families facing ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease, which is a progressive, terminal disease that makes the brain stop talking to the muscles, eventually leading to full-body paralysis. A person diagnosed with ALS slowkly looses every physical ability while their mind remains sharp and aware.

The organization supports individuals and their families facing the impact of ALS by easing the financial, emotional, and everyday burdens that this disease creates. It exists to provide stability, dignity, and allow families to focus on what matters most — time together. Touched by ALS pushes the motto, “no one should have to worry about dying while also worrying about how they are going to keep the lights on.” Every 90 minutes, someone is diagnosed with ALS…and every 90 minutes, someone dies from ALS.

By donating to Spirit Week this year, you are helping relieve the financial burden so families can focus on quality time with their loved ones. You will assist our partner charity in covering basic needs such as weekly groceries, or in addressing even more complex necessities such as power wheelchairs and eye gaze devices.

Through our partnership with Touched By ALS, we’re not just raising money—we’re changing lives. We believe this nonprofit is performing the kind of impactful, meaningful work that our entire community can come together to support.
