On Saturday August 1st I’ll reach my 72nd birthday. It was not at all clear that I’d be here for this turn of the calendar, back in 2015. It was then that I was diagnosed with mantle cell lymphoma. What a shock. I started treatment after choosing to participate in a clinical trial. That is the important part of my experience. Within three months I was in remission and I’ve now been in remission for nearly 11 years. Research led to those treatments. Medical research is essential to all of us, as we see every day that new discoveries lead to new improvements in health outcomes, many of them completely unknown in the recent past. The Mantle Cell Lymphoma Alliance was established to further medical research into this rare disease, among its other goals of assisting patients, survivors and caregivers. That is why I volunteered with MCLA this year, and that is why I’m celebrating my 72nd birthday with this fundraiser. Please join me in supporting this organization, which has taken a leadership position in the fight against blood cancer. Thank you.
