Sad news

Terrible news to report: foster Buster has unexpectedly crossed the rainbow bridge. 🌈 😢

Buster was being prepped for his big surgery on Wednesday, but had complications during sedation and could not be resuscitated. Our team, his fosters, and the clinic staff are devastated — all have cared for Buster throughout his year-long fight against the persistent infection that this procedure was intended to resolve.

We take some comfort in knowing that, despite the unfortunate turn of events, this previously-abandoned rabbit did know love and safety in his lifetime: all thanks to a kind-hearted rescuer and the compassion of strangers.

Contributions to our ongoing fundraiser will still be used to recoup costs associated with his care and Harlowe’s ER bill.

Remember to hold your loved ones tight. 💜

Buster

Buster has been in foster care for nearly an entire year! Last March, he was surrendered to Bunny Buddies after a kind-hearted rescuer found him abandoned, with an abscess on his chin.

The experts at Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists have tried everything to treat his stubborn infection: from oral antibiotics and penicillin injections to implanted antibiotic beads and even hyperbaric oxygen therapy. Despite some improvement, the core infection won’t relent.

Aside from this ailment, Buster is a happy, healthy boy who enjoys a good cuddle and has a hearty appetite; he’s even learned how to do tricks for his favorite treats!

The upcoming surgery aims to remove the infected portion of his jaw. Our partners at GCVS agree that Buster is a good candidate for this procedure and it’s likely his best chance for a longer, pain-free life.

Give today so we can offset the impending costs and support him in recovery. Every bunny deserves love.

Harlowe

In mid-January, Harlowe was rushed to an emergency clinic after choking on her evening pellets.

But that’s when her real struggle began: though her airways had been cleared, Harlowe still couldn’t breathe. After days of tests, bloodwork, and x-rays — all the while on oxygen support — the official diagnosis was pneumonia. Likely caused by aspiration of the food.

Thanks to the skilled staff of Veterinary Emergency Group in Katy and support from her dedicated foster, Harlowe stabilized and eventually improved enough to go home with antibiotics. She has since recovered and is back to enjoying her favorite activities.

Accidents happen, but Harlowe's story is proof that a watchful eye and swift action can turn a potential disaster into a second chance.

Of course, urgent medical care is expensive! Help us recoup these unexpected costs so we can focus on finding Harlowe a fantastic forever home.
