For years, if a stray cat or dog turned up in Caledonia, La Crescent Animal Rescue's hands were tied. Caledonia sits in Houston County, and until recently, LAR's reach didn't stretch that far — anyone in the county could always adopt from LAR, but there was no one close by to call when an animal actually needed help finding its way home.

A couple of years ago, that changed. LAR expanded to serve all of Houston County, which means Caledonia finally has a rescue partner in its corner — for the strays who need somewhere to go, and for the families who want to bring one home.

Keeping that promise running takes a community behind it, and on Sunday, October 6th, we're throwing a party to build exactly that.

Join us at the Caledonia City Auditorium for the Meow Mixer — an afternoon for the whole family and every animal lover in Houston County. There's a bake-off featuring bakers from around the region (come hungry and ready to vote), kitty crafts for the kids, a classic cake walk, pet-themed snacks, and games for all ages. Part carnival, part county fair, entirely for the animals who now call Houston County home.

Every ticket sold helps LAR keep showing up — for the strays, for the families across the county who are counting on them, and for a rescue that finally reaches all of Houston County. Grab your ticket, bring the kids, and come ready for an afternoon of cake, crafts, and cats.
