On December 15, 2014, we opened one of the first cat cafes in the country with a single goal in mind. We told ourselves that we would consider Meow Parlour successful if we helped a single cat get adopted.

Over the years, we have repeated this success story over and over again. In 2017, we filed paperwork to become a nonprofit and by January 2018, we processed our first adoption as our own rescue.

In the early days, we didn't have a lot of money. We managed our budget and our population very closely to work within what we could afford. We wanted to prove that we would be smart with your donations and that we were worthy of your support. To do so, we wanted to show that we are creative, we are efficient, and we are making an impact. Every year, more and more of you signed up to be part of this journey.

In March 2020, we had to change the way we worked and our ability to help more cats grew as more and more people signed up to foster. Now, with more than 100 people on our foster roster, we've made enormous progress in the cats we helped.

This April, we moved to a new space that allows us to do so much more. We have a veterinarian on our team who examines our cats weekly. We partnered with the dog rescue, Muddy Paws Rescue, to build out a surgical suite so that we could coordinate the spay and neuter surgeries of our cats and dogs in-house, allowing us to start taking in pets who had previously been considered too old or sick to quality for low cost surgeries. Because of you, we take in neonatal kittens, cats with medical needs, FIV+ cats, and hospice seniors. You have given us the freedom to help those who need it most.

Those early years of running a nonprofit gave us the foundation to learn how to work within our means so that when we have a big case, we are ready to go. There are kittens like Ondra, who has had only one working lung her entire life and was recently diagnosed with FIP after a 5 day stint in the ICU. And perfect boys like Tristan, who rescued himself by walking up to strangers in a park. We took him in knowing that his liver was inflamed and after months of tests and consults, we came up with a plan that his adopter has been following as we work towards giving him as normal of a life as possible. These are cats who got a chance because of donors like you.

10 years. That is a long time for a business in NYC to survive. Every day we get to make a difference. Your support has helped give a chance to thousands of cats and will keep us going to help thousands more. ❤️

Meow Parlour is 10!
