Why I'm running
Running has been one of the ways I've learned to thrive.
For more than a decade, it's taken me through 5Ks, marathons, ultramarathons, injuries, comebacks, and a lot of miles in between. As a cancer survivor, running has given me goals to work toward, reminded me what my body can still do, and taught me that moving forward doesn't have to happen all at once.
Earlier this year, I was training for the Atlanta Marathon when a hip injury changed my plans. I ultimately decided that pushing through 26.2 miles wasn't worth risking a bigger injury.
I've spent the months since slowly working my way back, gradually adding miles and getting stronger.
Now I'm ready for my next goal: the PNC Atlanta 10 Miler on October 25..
And I want those miles to mean something beyond the finish line.
I'm putting these next 10 miles to work, with a goal of raising $1,000 for Now We Thrive and helping other cancer survivors find their own ways to move forward after treatment.
And those 10 miles are just the beginning. This Thanksgiving, I'm hoping others will join me as part of Team Now We Thrive at the Atlanta Track Club Thanksgiving Day races, running or walking their own miles to help cancer survivors move forward.
Cancer treatment helped me survive.
Running has been one of the things that helped me thrive.
Now I'd like these next 10 miles to help someone else do the same.
Thank you for supporting me and Now We Thrive.
One step at a time.
Tom
