Miles for Smiles, a virtual Bike-A-Thon supporting Trips for Kids Bay Area, will start October 8, 2022 and run through October 24, 2022. Come October, your daily rides can help provide a transformational cycling experience for underserved youth and create those big beaming smiles we strive for at Trips for Kids Bay Area.

Here's How It Works

To Ride in Miles For Smiles:

  • Bike outside or ride indoor on your trainer at your own pace.
  • Complete your challenge miles anywhere, anytime, all at once or a little at a time between October 8 - 24, 2022.
  • Visit our media kit for great pictures to add to your fundraising efforts.
  • Invite people to support you or form a team!

We will launch the event with a daily mileage challenge! The individual fundraiser who rides the most miles and raises at least $100 for the event will win an awesome prize (prize TBA). Please send Strava information to Tyler Valicenti at [email protected] and designate the title of the e-mail (e.g., “Miles for Smiles Strava Challenge") on the first day of the competition with the most miles logged.

How can you make a further impact? Easy! Share our campaign and encourage your friends, family, neighbors, acquaintances to make a flat donation by clicking on the Donate & Tickets button on our campaign page.

"When I first got on the bike, I was like, 'Oh No...' and I thought I couldn't even make it like one mile or even one lap around a circle. But, to see how far we've gone from the start to the finish, it felt really nice to know that I actually did that!"

- Manaiaya, Age 12

Trips for Kids Bay Area envisions a world where all children reach their highest potential. We believe that all kids, regardless of their gender, race or socio-economic status deserve a life where they can self-actualize and be the best they can be - physically, emotionally, and intellectually.

Our mission is to provide transformative cycling experiences for underserved youth. We focus on kids eight to seventeen years old. We aim to address those needs through our signature programs: Trail Rides, Earn-A-Bike, and Mobile Bike Workshops, as well as through our Re-Cyclery Bike Shop and NEW Internship Program..

We strive to:

  • Build self-esteem
  • Inspire healthy lifestyles
  • Connect youth to the natural world
  • Inspire joy

Your support will help our Trail Rides Program

Trips for Kids Bay Area started in 1988 with this flagship program! Trail Rides take groups of kids on mountain bike adventures (many for the first time) in gorgeous local, state, and national parks. Participants learn bike skills, gain self-confidence, engage in physical exercise, and explore and connect with nature in beautiful open spaces throughout the Bay Area.

We partner with over 40 community-based agencies and schools in the Bay Area. Many of these agencies serve kids from historically underserved communities and rely heavily on Trips for Kids Bay Area for high-quality, engaging, and fun outdoor experiences.

With highly skilled Ride Leaders and a fleet of 80 bikes, we provide everything needed for kids to experience the joy of exploring the world from the seat of a mountain bike. Trips for Kids Bay Area offers two programs that include single day, intro-to-mountain biking Discovery Rides as well as Adventure Bike Clubs - a series of rides where students build upon their experience and see improvement in skill, endurance, and enjoyment over the course of weeks or months. Each program can be tailored to meet the needs and experience of the group.

Describe your Trail Ride experience in one word:

"Probably just fulfilled. That emotion like more filled, more full. Because it has been really bland at school and home. So, it is nice to go out and see something new!"

- Asher, Age 13
