Up to 27% of Americans live with a disability yet in 2022, just 1.9% of film characters with a speaking role had a disability. Only 5 out of 9 disabled characters are played by a disabled actor.

Imagine growing up with a visible disability and nicknames like "alligator boy", "fish girl", or "Frosty" (the flaky snowman)--a common experience among those with ichthyosis.

Ichthyosis is a genetic skin disease that causes extremely dry, red, and scaling skin. It impacts ~16,000 births a year and has 20+ variations with symptoms that range from mild to severe.

In addition to the physical pains of ichthyosis, the lack of disability representation and relatable role models in film and TV exacerbates the mental and emotional challenges of living with a physical difference.

As creators, storytellers, and consumers, we have a responsibility to advocate for increased representation and diversity. That's why we are making Miss Matched, a romantic comedy about a relatable guy with ichthyosis.

Written, directed, and starring an affected adult, Miss Matched will elevate the ichthyosis and related skin types community to generate awareness and fundraising that can support medical research and improve lives of those affected.
