Why donate to Art With a Heart?

The Monhegan Island Artist Retreat will provide participants with a rich, rewarding, and memorable experience. For many, it will be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to create art on this iconic Maine Island. But the benefits of this event go even further. Donors are also supporting Women for Healthy Rural Living. This small grassroots nonprofit is doing big things in Downeast Maine. WHRL was formed in 2005 as a group of strong, determined women seeking to improve the health of their local community.

We have three focus areas.

Hunger and food security—we address this via Incredible Edible Milbridge, a series of free pick-your-own vegetable gardens.
We promote exercise and physical activity via yoga and Bone Builders classes, the walking trail at Milbridge Commons Wellness Park, and Outdoor Women Lead, a series of monthly outings led by a registered Maine guide.
Connection to other and nature.
Building human connections. We facilitate this through most of our programs but also our regular book discussion groups.
We encourage connections to nature. WHRL created Milbridge Commons Wellness Park in collaboration with Maine Coast Heritage Trust in 2018 to provide our community with ample opportunities to experience the wonders of our natural surroundings.
