At Beyond Us & Them, we believe that community is where healing begins.

In a time when division often feels louder than connection, we’re building spaces where people come together to listen, understand, and care for one another — across lines that too often keep us apart.

Every donation helps us bring more people into dialogue, strengthen local partnerships, and create programs that remind us of our shared humanity. Our work resources individuals across a wide range of sectors: first responders, students and teachers, incarcerated individuals and frontline workers in a variety of organizations and agencies.

Another critical area of focus for Beyond Us & Them is the community of formerly incarcerated individuals and those who serve them. We launched the Los Angeles Reentry Collaborative to provide a forum, as well as a network of services, to empower individuals overcoming adversity in community.

Mario Guerra, a formerly incarcerated individual who is now pursuing his Bachelor's Degree in political science, says this of our recent Los Angeles Reentry Collaborative event: “It’s like a dream just being here, and when you ask about challenges- I love the problems that I have today as opposed to the things that I dealt with.”

Each purchase supports our mission to move beyond the barriers that divide us and toward a future rooted in empathy, belonging, and hope.

Our work represents a shift from the paradigm of "othering" to an aspiration of flourishing together. Our name is inspired by Rumi’s words: “Out beyond ideas of rightdoing and wrongdoing, there is a field. I’ll meet you there.” Our work brings people together across lines of difference to listen, understand, and connect.
