Housed in the heart of East San Antonio, the Young Men’s Leadership Academy (YMLA) is San Antonio’s first all-boys public school. YMLA opened in August 2015, representing SAISD’s expansion of a single-gender model of education. This model is backed by research that indicates that young men and women learn differently.

YMLA is home to young men of grades 6-12, helping them mold the strong internal foundation necessary for external success. Our firm belief is that every young man entering our campus, no matter where he comes from, has limitless potential. How do we do this? We help every young man realize and achieve his potential through high goal setting inside and outside of the classroom with an emphasis on character, leadership and discipline. A single-gender environment allows our young men to freely and openly express themselves so that they may develop positive self-esteem and a sense of self-identity and individuality. Our ability to offer our students various athletic opportunities further promotes their development as confident, ambitious and disciplined members of society.

YMLA is a no cost, SAISD choice school. What does this mean? This means our student population is comprised of young men from across Bexar County and surrounding areas, who pay $0 to learn and grow with us!

The YMLA Athletic Booster Club is a non-profit extension of our school’s athletic program. The Athletic Booster Board is comprised of elected family members of our young men, who have seen a need to further support our rising student athletes and aim to support our young men via means such as this to fundraise and in turn aid us in building a stronger athletic program. It truly takes a village!
