Life can shatter in an instant. For me, that instant arrived in 2016, a screech of tires and a world turned upside down. My vibrant, cherished 11-year-old child, stolen in a car accident. The silence that followed was deafening, the grief an ocean that threatened to drown me whole.
For years, I walked through a fog of sorrow, a hollow ache where joy once lived. Simple tasks felt insurmountable. The vibrant colors of life had faded to an unbearable monochrome. I was lost, adrift in a sea of “what ifs” and “if onlys.”
Then, a flicker of light in the darkness: a warm, wet nose nudging my hand, a pair of devoted eyes looking up at me with unconditional love. This was when Copper entered my life. Copper wasn't just a pet; he became my emotional service animal, a silent guardian against the tidal wave of despair.
Copper offered a lifeline I didn't know I desperately needed. He didn't try to fix me, but simply was.
