In October, the mushroom house in Iganga collapsed.

It was the heart of Making Shroom for Her, The Boon Project’s program that helps women in rural Uganda grow and sell mushrooms. For these women, mushrooms mean income they control: school fees paid, food on the table, and a business of their own.

The women haven’t given up, and neither have we. We’re not just rebuilding. We’re building back better.

1. A stronger mushroom house
Durable materials built to last through storms and seasons, so their work can’t be undone again.

2. Spawn production on site
Spawn is the “seed” mushrooms grow from. Today it has to be bought and transported, which costs money and slows production. Making it locally means lower costs, a steady supply, and a new skill the women can sell to other growers.

Your gift will:

Rebuild the house with stronger, longer-lasting materials
Set up equipment and training to make spawn on site
Restock supplies so the women can restart their harvest
Cover field oversight and transfer costs, so every dollar reaches the project and the work is checked on the ground

This rebuild is the first working piece of our Mushroom Center of Excellence, a hub that will train new growers and supply spawn across Eastern Uganda.

Help us rebuild. Help her keep growing.

The Boon Project is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit (EIN 84-3609866). Your gift is tax-deductible.
