Help Improve the Powder Coater - Campaign ends March 1st!

We are very close to meeting our goal of improving the Powder Coating system at Maker Works!

Our Goal: $4,000 by March 1st

Thanks to a generous donor ($2,000) and our end of year fundraiser ($750), we're already at $2,750 - only $1,250 to go!

Why This Tool?

Our current aging powder coating system is not operating to spec, outputting 30 kV instead of 100 kV. That means less powder is transferred to the part and more powder gets wasted, turning the surrounding area into a mess. An upgraded system would mean:

Higher Transfer Efficiency: A unit capable of 70 kV - 100 kV ensures most of the powder sticks to the part.
Cleaner & More Controlled Work Environment: Less airborne powder means more time on your project and less time cleaning.
Professional-Quality Finishes with Less Effort: More even coating and better penetration with complex parts.

With $2,750, we can afford a decent unit, but to buy from a reliable company with well-documented manuals, ensure long-term support, update SOPs, and improve the organization of the area, we'll need more. Can you help us reach our goal? Every contribution brings us closer to a faster, clean, and more efficient powder coating system!

What do we intend to do?

Replace the gun and control system with a new or refurbished unit capable of 100 kV, and make some improvements to the organization of the powder coating area.

We are considering a few different systems from the Kool Koat 3.0 DPW to an Electron E-Coat +3 Pro and a Parker Ionics GX7500. We'll reach out to distributors and manufacturers to get the option that best fits Maker Works' needs, based on the amount raised by March 1st, 2025.

When do we intend to do this?

February: Wrap up the fundraiser and get the best deal we can.
March: Purchase equipment, update SOPs, and make area improvements.
April: New powder coating system online.

Didn't we already raise some money for the Powder Coater?

Yes! Our end of year fundraiser set out to raise $2,000 to improve the powder, which has contributed $750 so far. With a $2,000 commitment, that puts us at $2,700. We could stop here, but with a little more money we can more sustainably improve the whole powder coating area.

The Powder Coating area has supported some pretty neat things. From custom coatings on car parts, parts for FIRST Robotics, prototyped parts that helped launch a successful business, some fantastic metal sculpture by Kelly O'Neill, to some gorgeous signs for The Creature Conservancy. This tool enables some really great work. We're excited to see what happens when we have a fully functional powder coating system!
