Independent Contemporary Arts Project ICAP is an educational program divided into three programs:

Youth Empowerment Program;

Children of the Sun Literacy Series; and

ICAP Media Literacy Show

Youth Empowerment Program – Program Summary

The ICAP Youth Empowerment Program , is a comprehensive initiative designed to support and empower elementary to high school-aged girls in NJ, with a focus on the Montclair, and Greater Essex County Area. The program's primary objective is to guide these students from exposure to experience, preparing them for the workforce and college readiness. With a strong emphasis on literacy arts, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), media literacy, entrepreneurship, and related career fields, the program aims to ensure that each participant secures an internship in a field of interest during high school and is well-prepared for future academic and professional pursuits.

The program is structured as a full-year endeavor, with a particular focus on a summer enrichment program experience. Over the years, the program provides a scaffolded progression, gradually transitioning from exposure in the early grades to hands-on experience at the high school level. By offering a holistic approach, the program seeks to address both cognitive and non-cognitive skills, fostering the overall development and growth of the participating students.

We need your support to continue building an empowering, affirming environment where our children can thrive. At the ICAP Youth Empowerment Program, we are committed to ensuring that every child feels seen, valued, and inspired. As we prepare for our 2025 Summer, we are ramping up our fundraising efforts and asking for your support to sustain and expand these crucial experiences.This summer program is free.

This year’s theme—"Physical Space, Physics, Space, Matter, and Mattering"—is more than just an educational journey. It’s about helping our children understand not only the physical world but also their significance within it. During 2023-present we have provide programming for over seven-hundred children, distributed five hundred free books. ICAP Youth Empowerment program received honorable mentions in the 2024 NASA Space Apps Challenge , and one of our girls was featured on Good Morning America February 2025. We are dedicated to fostering a space where they can explore, create, and grow with confidence. Unfortunately a federal grant that was award to our organization never was summited.

We are thrilled to be preparing for the 2025 Summer Youth Empowerment Program for Girls, a transformative experience designed for late elementary and high school girls across New Jersey. This program is rooted in the belief that every child deserves a space to thrive, feel affirmed, and grow boldly.
