Support Theatre Connect's Teen Troupe Production

For the past two months, the dedicated and talented members of Theatre Connect's Teen Troupe have poured their hearts and creativity into bringing "The Boy and His Monsters" to life. Written by our Senior Director, Henry Hyde, and produced by our queer youth participants, this original play showcases the incredible journey of a young boy, Alexander, as he navigates a mystical forest filled with whimsical and supernatural creatures.

About Theatre Connect:

Since 2017, Theatre Connect has been a beacon of hope and creativity for over 150 LGBTQIA+ youth and adults in Gainesville, FL. Our mission is to foster connection, unity, and mental well-being within the queer community of North Central Florida through transformative performing arts experiences. As an independent 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, we are committed to providing a safe space for self-expression and learning, led by professional facilitators who offer engaging sessions in improvisation, stagecraft, and storytelling.

Our work is grounded in diversity and community. We continuously strive to offer inclusive and accessible programs in collaboration with licensed mental health professionals, ensuring Theatre Connect remains a supportive environment that promotes socio-emotional wellness.

The Play: "The Boy and His Monsters"

Synopsis:

Alexander, a curious and adventurous nine-year-old, ventures into a mystical forest to uncover the truth about the monsters his mother warned him about. Along the way, he meets a variety of supernatural beings, including the grumpy but misunderstood Mr. Bile, the vain and dangerous kelpie Regis Rotwater, the undead swamp dragon Crarun Malakite, and the mysterious hag Mama Esther Spitesquirmer. Alexander learns about bravery, friendship, and forging one's path.
